Dublin · SEO for trades and home services

Your Van Covers Four Counties. Google Shows You in a Handful of Postcodes.

Dublin plumbers, electricians, roofers and installers take jobs from Swords to Naas and from Navan to Bray. Google mostly shows a homeowner the trades closest to where they are standing. If your profile and website only say “Dublin”, you miss most of the towns your van already drives to.

Coverage map

How Far Does Your Van Go? Google Draws a Smaller Circle.

Drag the slider to your usual travel radius. Our example base is Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. Green towns are where the map pack is realistic. Amber towns are inside your radius, but you win them with a town page, reviews from that town and steady work there. Grey towns are outside your radius, so we would not spend your money on them.

Example only. Straight-line distances from Blanchardstown, map not drawn for roads. The 8 km map-pack ring is our rule of thumb for this example, not a Google rule. Real results depend on your trade, reviews and competition.

The home patch

The few towns closest to your base. Here the map pack is winnable, and it is where emergency calls are decided. Your Google profile does most of the work.

The commuter belt

Maynooth, Ratoath, Celbridge, Naas, Bray. Families who moved out of Dublin, newer estates, lots of extensions and energy upgrades. You win these with town pages and local reviews, not the map pack.

What one base can win

No single business ranks across the whole county. We show you, town by town, where you can win and where you would be paying for nothing.

What homeowners see

Same Search, Three Towns, Three Different Plumbers

Search “plumber near me” in Blanchardstown, then in Naas, then in Bray. Google shows a different map pack each time, because it ranks local results on three things.

01 · Distance

How close you are to the searcher

You cannot move your base. You can stop hiding the towns you cover, by listing your real service areas and giving each main town its own page.

02 · Relevance

How well you match the search

“Boiler repair” and “heat pump installer” are different searches. One “Services” page cannot answer both. Each job you want needs its own page and its own place on your profile.

03 · Prominence

How well known you are

Reviews, mentions on other sites, how often people pick you. This is what lets you reach a little further than the streets around your base.

Why this matters for trades: a homeowner with a burst pipe or no heat rarely scrolls. They ring one of the first names they see, so the map pack near your base is where most emergency jobs are decided. Planned jobs further out are won on your website. Local SEO for trades

Distance, relevance and prominence are the three factors Google names in its Business Profile help pages.

Reviews

In Trades, the Review Decides Who Gets the Call

Three plumbers show up. The homeowner rings the one whose reviews mention their kind of job, in their kind of house, near them.

Aoife, Lucan★★★★★
Example

“Came out the same evening for a leaking cylinder in our semi-d in Lucan. Clear price before starting and left the place clean.”

Owner’s replyThanks Aoife, glad we got it sorted before the weekend. Give us a shout if anything changes.
A homeowner leaving a Google review on her phone after a plumber finishes a boiler job

Ask every customer, the same day

Text one review link when the job is done. Asking only the happy ones breaks Google’s rules.

Ask them to mention the job and the town

“New boiler in Celbridge” helps the next homeowner in Celbridge more than “great service”. You can suggest it. You cannot write it for them.

Never pay for reviews

No discounts or gifts for a review. Google removes them and can restrict your profile.

Reply to every review

Good or bad, a short, calm reply shows the next customer how you handle problems.

What homeowners type

Emergencies, Grants and Big Jobs Are Different Searches

A homeowner with no hot water searches very differently from one planning a heat pump or a new roof. Each group needs its own page, and its own place on your Google profile.

Grants change what people search. Since 3 February 2026, the SEAI heat pump grant for a house is up to €12,500, including a €4,000 bonus for replacing an oil, gas, solid-fuel or electric storage system. Homeowners search for installers by grant name, and grant work needs an SEAI-registered contractor. Say so on the page.

Registration is the law, so show it. Electrical work in a home must be done by a Registered Electrical Contractor with Safe Electric, and gas work by a Registered Gas Installer. Both give the customer a completion certificate. Put your number where homeowners can check it.

Worked example

One Plumber’s Google Profile, Before and After

An illustrative example, not a client. A plumbing and heating business based in Dublin 15 that also takes jobs in Lucan, Maynooth, Celbridge and Dunboyne.

A bare Google Business Profile next to a complete one with job photos and reviews
Before

Listed as “Dublin”

“Plumbing & Heating Dublin – Best Prices – Call Now”

  • Keywords stuffed into the business name, which Google can suspend
  • Main category “Contractor”, so it misses plumbing searches
  • No service areas, eight reviews, none naming a town
  • One “Services” page on the website, no RGI number anywhere
After

Listed for the patch it works

“[Business name] Plumbing & Heating”, the name on the van

  • Main category “Plumber”, with heating as an extra category
  • Service areas: Dublin 15, Lucan, Maynooth, Celbridge, Dunboyne
  • A page per town with two or three real jobs done there
  • RGI number on the profile and site, review link texted after every job

How we would judge it: calls and quote requests by town, not rankings. If the Maynooth page brings jobs and the Celbridge page does not after a few months, we change Celbridge or drop it. Job and town pages that win work

Common questions

Questions Trades Ask Us

Plain answers. If SEO is not right for your business yet, we will say so.

How long does SEO take for a trade business in Dublin?

Fixes to your Google profile, like categories, service areas and reviews, can change what you see within weeks. Town pages and job pages usually take two to four months to settle, and longer in busy areas. We tell you which towns are quick wins before you start.

Can I show up in towns where I do not have an address?

In the map pack, mostly near your base, because Google ties it to where you are. In the normal results below the map, yes, with a real page for that town that shows jobs you have done there. Never use a fake or virtual address. Google suspends profiles that do.

I work from home. Do I have to show my address on Google?

No. If customers do not come to you, hide the address and list your service areas instead. Google lets you add up to 20 service areas and asks you to keep them within about two hours’ drive of your base.

Should I put my Safe Electric or RGI number on my website?

Yes. Home electrical work must be done by a Registered Electrical Contractor and gas work by a Registered Gas Installer, and homeowners check. Show your number on your website and your Google profile, and mention the completion certificate you give at the end of the job.

We are already booked out. Is SEO worth it?

Maybe not for more of the same work. It can be worth it for the jobs you want more of, like heat pumps instead of call-outs, or for towns closer to your base so you spend less time in the van. If you just need to stay busy, we will tell you to wait.

SEO or Google Ads for a trade business?

Ads fill a quiet week fast and stop the day you stop paying. SEO takes months but keeps the phone ringing after. Many trades run small ads for emergency work and use SEO for planned jobs and grant work.

Do I need a website if my Google profile is good?

Your profile wins the map pack near your base. A website wins the towns further out, the planned jobs and the grant searches, and it is where homeowners check your registration and prices. You need both.
